Started a dietary therapy bento delivery service. Studied Yakuzen, food as medicine, through
Traditional Chinese medicine.
When she came across the "GyozenHonzou", the one and only herbal book in Okinawa, it was the
starting point for her to understand the "Shoku wa Kusuimun" (Food is Medicine) and since
then she has learned that the traditional Chinese medicine is deeply involved with the
Ryukyu cuisine.
Yukie Miyaguni is featured on Netflix longevity secrets, "Blue Zone live to hundreds".
The Okinawan dietary pattern is introduced in the first series. The film shows where the
secret to longevity lies, and how each and every Okinawan ingredient contains the secret to
longevity.

What is Ryukyu Medicinal Yakuzen Cuisine? 琉球料理とは

Ryukyu Yakuzen cuisine, which has been said to be the secret of longevity, is a traditional
Okinawan cuisine which is also called "The wisdom of food" that has been handed down since
the day of the Ryukyu Kingdom.
Way before the Ryukyu cuisine was established, it has been passed on into the kitchens of
the families who wished for their family's well being. At the same time, there was a food
therapy book called "GyozenHonzou" that also has been passed down to the modern age.
By eating a well balanced and tasty meal, we can prevent and treat symptoms. The idea of "A
balanced diet leads to a healthy body, food is medicine" is called
"Kusuimun". Here at our cooking studio Yakuzen Ryuka, we are committed to reviving the
culture of health and longevity through the Ryukyuan ingredients and
"GyozenHonzou" and to pass on a new "Kusuimun" in the modern age. We believe that this
knowledge works throughout the world.











Secrets of Longevity Inherited from Our ancestors 先祖から受け継いだ長寿の秘訣
未病をケアする薬膳料理から、免疫力を高め、人が本来持っている心身の力を最大限に引き出す薬膳料理まで。琉球薬膳料理を毎日食べることは、それほど難しいことではありません。自分が何を感じ、何をしたいのか、自分の体に聞いてみることから始まります。体が熱い?肩は凝っていないか?前向きな気持ちになれない?
日々、自分の心と体の声に耳を傾けることで、今日はどんな料理を作ればいいのかがわかってくる。
沖縄の方言に「くすいむん」という言葉がある。
これは、琉球王朝時代に中国から伝わった「食は薬なり」という考え方に由来するもので、「薬」や「体に良いもの」を意味する。薬が手に入りにくかった時代、沖縄の食は「薬」の役割を果たすとともに、自分や家族の健康を維持していた。
現代ではあまり耳にしない、
食事の前に沖縄の方言で 「クスイナラチクミソーリ(薬になりますように)」。そして、食べ終わった後に「クスイナイナイビタン(薬になりました)」と言うお年寄りをよく見かけた。
食事で体調を整えながら、毎日感謝して食べることが健康長寿の秘訣だったのだ。
もうひとつは、若い世代にもなじみの深い沖縄の方言「なんくるないさー」である。正しいことをすれば大丈夫という考えからきている。
日々の暮らしの中に薬膳料理があることは、自分や自然との対話だと思う。
自分の体と心の声に耳を傾け、感謝の気持ちを持って美味しい食事をし、「今」と「いのち」を大切にすれば、やがて乗り越えられる。
それは、私たちの古代と同じように、未来への不安を上手に天に委ねながら、常に自然体で前を向いていられることにつながっているのだと思う。

From Medicinal cuisine, which is focused on treating the pre-symptomatic state, to Medicinal
cuisine, that boosts up one's immune system by maximizing the power of self healing.
To include the Ryukyu Medicinal Yakuzen cuisine in your daily diet is not that difficult. It simply
starts by asking your own body, questions such as, "Am I tired today?" "Is my body inflamed?" "Do I
have stiff shoulders?" "Can I not think positive?" By knowing
the symptoms of your body, you will know what kind of ingredients you should use to cook for your
meal.
In Okinawan dialect, there is a word called "Kusuimun" meaning "Food is medicine." This has been
passed on from Chinese terminology "Food and medicine come from the same source" which means, "Food
is medicine" is "Good for your body". In those days when medicine was hard to come by, the Okinawan
food was not just thought to be healthy, but the food also played a role as medicine.
There is an Okinawan dialect we do not hear people saying anymore, but
"Kusui-narachi-kumisori" (may it be the medicine) was said before the meal and
"Kusuinaibitan" (it became my medicine) was said decades ago by the elderly after the meal with
gratitude.
Balancing one's body by eating properly and appreciating the meal could have been the secret to
healthy longevity.
And one more phrase "Nankurunaisa" that even the younger generation knows this phrase. It is a
terminology, If you do the right thing, there will be a banquet. Living with Yakuzen, "food as
medicine," should have been a communication with nature and oneself. Listening to your body and
soul, and eating together with gratitude, cherishing the present and the life, you might be able to
pull through. Not to worry and leave the future to heaven, you can face what's coming up as life
goes on.
